Owner/operator Mr Keith Roffman says he is “ecstatic with the range of initiatives that he hopes to deliver to adults, teens and kids wanting to develop their surfing ability this year.”

“By teaming with Surfing WA, we hope not only build our quality beginner education to every month of the year, but extend programs such as Level 1 Surf Instructors Course, High Performance Coaching and other grassroots programs,” Mr Roffman said.

Until then, he will be running lessons at Geraldton’s Back Beach and wants to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I spent last week with my wife, Steve and my neighbours relaxing at one of Western Australia’s best surf locations.

 The waves were a little small but the notorious Bluff barrel was still doing its thing.

  • Be sun smart.  Wear sunscreen, a hat and cover up.  Drink water. 
  • Always swim with another person.
  • Choose a beach that is suitable to your skill level (See Below).
  • If you see someone in trouble in the water, get help quickly.  Don’t swim out unless you are confident that you will not get into trouble.  Always take a floatation device with you.
  • If you are in trouble in the water (e.g. caught in a Rip):
    • Stay calm.
    • Float on your back.
    • Wave one arm for help.
  • Read and follow the beach signs.
  • On Patrolled beaches:   
    • Speak and listen to the lifeguards.
    • Always swim between the flags. 
    • KEEP YOUR SURFBOARD OUT OF THE FLAGS!
